Grok Bot Gmail is the built-in Gmail connection that lets xAI's Grok Bot search, read, draft, send and label mail in your own Gmail account. You connect it once from Connect Apps, and every Bot on your account can work your inbox. This page covers setup, drafts versus sends, attachments, send-as addresses, signatures, safety rules and what to do when Google signs you out, based on xAI's docs and changelog up to v0.78.1 (27 October 2026).

This is about connecting your existing Gmail. Grok Bot can also have its own address at mail.grokbot.com, which is a separate inbox shared by all your Bots. That one is covered in the Grok Bot email guide.
What Grok Bot Gmail can do
xAI's docs say the Gmail app can search and read mail, draft and send, and apply labels on the connected mailbox. It works with the same access your Google account already has. The changelog has filled in a lot of detail since September 2026:
- Attachments. Attach files from the Bot's computer to drafts and sends (v0.53.0, v0.75.2, more cases in v0.78.1). It can also pull an email attachment onto its computer to work on it.
- Reply all and forward. Reply all, add a note when forwarding, and set label colors (v0.75.2).
- Threads. Replies quote the original so Gmail folds the thread, and reply drafts stay in their thread (v0.77.0, v0.75.2).
- Spam folder. Search your Spam folder and move a message back to the inbox (v0.68.1).
- Sign-in codes. When a site emails a code or link during a sign-in, the Bot reads it from your connected Gmail instead of asking you (v0.70.2).
- Labels. Apply labels and set label colors.

How to connect Grok Bot Gmail
- Open Connect apps from the sidebar. On the phone, tap your avatar and choose Connect apps.
- Find Gmail and choose Add. Since v0.63.0, adding Gmail from Marketplace starts its sign-in right away.
- Pick your Google account and approve access in the browser.
- Confirm Gmail shows as Connected with your email address (v0.67.0 shows the address instead of "default").
You can also ask a Bot to "connect my Gmail" and follow its Connect card. After Gmail connects, the Bot offers a pairing app, such as Google Calendar (v0.77.0). The wider sign-in flow and status labels are in the Grok Bot connectors guide.
Company Google accounts. xAI's docs say Grok Bot signs in to Google as "Grok". If you see "Your admin needs to review Grok" or "Access blocked", a Workspace admin must set Grok to Trusted in the Google Admin console under Security, Access and data control, API controls, App access control. A personal Gmail account needs no admin. Changing browsers or reconnecting does not clear an admin block.

Grok Bot Gmail drafts versus sends
The Bot can draft and it can send. Which one you get depends on your approval settings. With Auto Review, an action that needs you shows an approval card with Allow once, Always allow or Deny. A card paused by an Ask first rule shows Allow and Not now.
Draft and send details from the changelog:
- Draft cards include your signature, logo included, and say "Couldn't send this draft" when Send fails (v0.68.0).
- If a reply-all fails, the card says "Message not delivered" rather than showing it as sent (v0.67.0).
- Emails go to the recipients the Bot names, not a saved draft's original recipients (v0.62.0).
- Drafts written in plain text open in rich text, so they read well on a phone and send without hard line breaks (v0.78.1).
- Drafts retry through temporary rate limits and say if they still couldn't send (v0.70.2).
If you also run the Bot's own mail.grokbot.com address, xAI's docs say the Bot asks which account to send from when either could work.

Grok Bot Gmail send-as addresses and signatures
Mail from the Bot looks like mail from you. That matters for clients.
- Drafts can go out from a verified Gmail send-as address, with a From picker when you have more than one (v0.68.0).
- Drafts use your default send-as address and your own signature, not one quoted from someone else's email (v0.70.2).
- Emails show your name and the signature saved for that address (v0.75.2).
- Signature logos stay inline in replies (v0.77.0).
If you send from several branded addresses, set them up as verified send-as addresses in Gmail first. The Bot then picks them up.
Grok Bot Gmail safety with Ask first and Block rules
Your inbox is sensitive, so set rules before you hand it over. Under Settings, General, Auto-review, add Custom Rules in plain words. xAI's own example is "Ask first before sending any external email".
- Ask first rules always stop matching actions for you. If an Ask first and an Allow rule both match, Ask first wins.
- You can hold up to 20 Allow automatically and 20 Ask first rules, each up to 1,000 characters.
- Ask first and Block rules for Gmail searches and reads hold even when the Bot calls them by another name (v0.77.0).
- To stop a Bot using the mailbox at all, xAI's docs say to disconnect Gmail.
On a team, a shared Bot asks before it uses your Gmail, and your connected account only ever acts for you. See the Grok Bot Teams guide for admin policy.

Grok Bot Gmail with multiple accounts
The sources disagree here. The computer-and-apps docs page says Gmail connects one mailbox at a time and you disconnect the current one to authorize another. The newer changelog line for v0.77.0 (26 October 2026) says adding a second Gmail or Google Drive account opens Google's account picker, and removing one account leaves the others in place.
Go with the changelog for current builds: update to v0.77.0 or later, then add the second account through the picker. Connected Google accounts show their email address on cards (v0.67.0), and signing in to a Google account that's already connected reuses it with one reconnect card (v0.78.1). A Google account without Gmail stays connected, and the Bot asks for an account that has Gmail (v0.77.0).
Reconnect Grok Bot Gmail when Google revokes access
Google can revoke the Bot's access to your mailbox. The changelog shows how the Bot handles each case:
| Situation | What the Bot does | Version |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail signs you out after Google revokes access | Your primary Bot tells you in its chat and offers to reconnect | v0.77.0 |
| Google throttles requests | Gmail stays connected and the Bot says to try again later | v0.77.0 |
| A routine hits a signed-out connector | Shows a Reconnect card, at most once a day | v0.75.2 |
| Gmail refuses to open a full thread | Answers from the thread's first message | v0.71.2 |
| A Gmail read or send fails | Retries | v0.77.0 |
| Google rate limits | Waits them out rather than failing | v0.68.1 |
If a reconnect doesn't stick, xAI's troubleshooting steps are: open Connect apps, choose Authenticate, finish within about 10 minutes, then retry. If access was revoked in Google, Remove Gmail, add it again and sign in.
Gmail pairs well with Grok Bot routines for scheduled inbox checks and with the Grok Bot shopping flow, where order confirmations land in your mail. For the bigger picture of agents running a small business, read the Agent OS guide. Julian's model testing lives on Goldie Bench.

FAQ about Grok Bot Gmail
Is Grok Bot Gmail the same as the Bot's own email address?
No. Gmail connects your existing Google mailbox. The mail.grokbot.com address is a separate inbox the Bots use for sign-ups and verification mail. You can run both, and the Bot asks which to send from.
Can Grok Bot send emails without asking me?
Only if Auto Review and your Custom Rules allow it. Add "Ask first before sending any external email" and every send waits for your approval card.
Can Grok Bot read my Gmail sign-in codes?
Yes. Since v0.70.2, when a sign-in emails a code or link, the Bot reads it from your connected Gmail or Outlook instead of asking you.
Why did Grok Bot Gmail disconnect?
Usually Google revoked access or an admin blocked the "Grok" app. Since v0.77.0 your primary Bot tells you and offers to reconnect. For help setting it up across a team, book a free AI strategy session.
