Why Links Still Decide Claude SEO Results
Here's the part most "AI SEO" pitches skip. Claude makes content production fast and cheap. That's exactly why content alone stops being a moat. When everyone can publish fast, the sites that win are the ones with authority behind them.
My own case data makes this plain. A DR55 site's traffic tracked its backlink curve almost one for one: as links came in, traffic followed. A sister site in the same niche, running similar content without the link building, barely moved. Same kind of pages, same kind of production, very different outcomes. The difference was links.

Before you sign with any Claude SEO agency, ask for these six things. A good agency will answer every one without flinching.
- See the actual workflow. Ask to see the skills, the rules and the checks. Not a slide that says "proprietary AI," but the real steps a keyword goes through from brief to live page.
- Grounded sources, no invented facts. Ask where the research comes from and how they stop the model making things up. Every claim on your site should trace back to something real.
- A link-building plan, not just content volume. Ask how they'll earn authority, what kinds of links, and how they'll report on them.
- AI-search coverage alongside Google. Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews for recommendations. Ask how the agency tracks and grows your mentions there, not only in the ten blue links.
- Reporting on clicks, not word counts. "We published 400 articles" is an activity report. You want clicks, rankings and leads.
- Clear ownership. Ask who owns the content, the domains, the analytics and the hosting accounts. The answer should be you.

Walk away, or at least slow right down, if a Claude SEO agency shows any of these:
- "AI" with no visible system. If they can't show you how Claude is actually used, assume it's a sales word.
- Thousands of pages with no links plan. Mass content without authority is how sites stall, and sometimes how they get hit.
- Guaranteed rankings. Nobody controls Google. Anyone promising specific positions is either guessing or not telling you the full story.
- No human review. If nothing gets read by a person before it goes live, you're the quality control.
- Locking you out of your own site. Agencies that hold your accounts hostage make leaving expensive. Keep admin access to everything.
