One catch: if you are on a qualifying plan and Astra still is not showing, check for app updates and relaunch. That fixes it for most people.
The Codex App and Astra Thinking Levels
Download the Codex app on desktop and mobile, then log in. When you start working you pick an Astra thinking level: Light, Medium or Extra High.
I stick to Medium for almost everything. Extra High sounds tempting, but lower levels use fewer tokens, which means your weekly usage limit stretches much further. Save the heavy setting for problems Medium genuinely cannot crack — you will thank yourself by Friday.
Local vs Cloud Projects, and Why You Should Pin Them
Every Astra build in the Codex app lives in a project, and projects come in two flavours. Cloud projects keep running with your laptop shut — my SEO routines run in the cloud for exactly that reason. Local projects are fine when it is just you, working live at the machine.
Two habits worth stealing. Pin your daily projects — right-click, then pin — so they stay on top of the list. And run parallel chats inside one project: I will have one chat on the UI, one on plugins, one on the backend, all inside the same build.

How To Use GPT 6 Astra
The method has three beats: describe what you want in plain English, test what Astra builds, then iterate with specific feedback. "The signup button breaks on mobile" beats "make it better" every single time. You are not the coder here — GPT-6 handles that. The human job is clearly defining what you need, then judging the output honestly.
Describe it, test it, tell it what is wrong. That is the job now.
Start by automating something you already spend real time on, not automation for its own sake. If you lose two hours a week formatting reports, that is your first build — boring, valuable, perfect.

Honest warning: websites Astra builds out of the box look bland. Functional, generic, forgettable. Two fixes work.
Hand it a screenshot of a design you love and tell it to match that style — Astra reads the layout and applies it to your build. Or install a design skill from GitHub — I use UI/UX Pro Max — and feed it your context: brand, audience, tone. Either route takes you from template-grey to something you would actually publish.
Turning a Page Into a Real App With Supabase
A pretty page is not a product. The jump happens when you plug in Supabase — it is free — as your database. Ask Astra to wire it up and your build suddenly has logins and per-user data storage: real accounts, real saved state, a real app.

Images, Video and Games: GPT Image 2.0, Remotion and HeyGen
Astra does not draw the pictures itself. It is the brain, and the image skill it orchestrates is GPT Image 2.0. You describe the image inside your workflow and Astra handles the rest. I feed the results into ads, YouTube thumbnails and website art.
Video goes further. The Remotion skill — free and open source — turns prompts and images into edited, animated videos. For avatar videos I combine it with the HeyGen API, and my Agent OS runs a video agent built exactly this way.
Images even become games. Pair image generation with Blender for the 3D modelling, let Astra drive both, and you get things like my cat racing game — which started life as one image and one prompt.
Computer Use: a Skool Post in 90 Seconds
Through the ChatGPT Chrome extension, Astra can operate your browser. In my live demo it opened my Skool community, read the page, then wrote and published a personalised marketing post — pulling member details straight from the page — in about 90 seconds.
Honest note: computer use still struggles in parts. Treat it like a junior assistant you supervise, not one you leave alone yet.

Cloud Routines: Automation That Runs While You Sleep
Cloud routines are scheduled Astra tasks that run without the app open. My SEO content routine publishes daily whether I am at the desk or not, and my site aiprofitboardroom.com went from 0 to 423 clicks a day on automated AI SEO — my stat, from my own dashboard, but that is the scale on offer.
One boundary matters: routines suit API-connected recurring work — publishing, reporting, data pulls. They are not for computer-use tasks, so do not schedule anything that needs to click around a live browser.
Plugins, Connectors and Approval Modes
Plugins connect Astra to the tools you already run. Add Gmail through the plugins menu, tag the app inside a workflow, and your inbox becomes something Astra can act on as part of a build.
Every connection carries an approval mode: full access, approve for me, or ask for approval. Ask-for-approval is the safest and the slowest — start there for anything touching email or money, then loosen it once the workflow has earned your trust.
The Usage Limit Warning Nobody Gives You
Weekly limits on GPT-6 Astra are real. I burned 44% of my weekly usage in about two days, without doing anything I would call heavy. Plan for it rather than discovering it mid-project.
Two coping moves. Run lower Astra thinking levels for routine work so your tokens stretch. And push grunt work to free models — my OmniRoute install guide shows how to route those alongside Astra, so the paid limit goes only to work that deserves it.
Running Astra Inside the Agent OS
The endgame is not one chat window. In my setup, Astra runs as one brain inside the Hermes harness, sitting in a model dropdown next to Gemma 4, Qwen, a custom DeepSeek build and a handful of local models. You pick the brain per task; the system around it never changes.
Memory is the part most people miss. Obsidian — free and open source — acts as the second brain, and the agents update its markdown memory files automatically, so any new model inherits full context the moment you switch. Is GPT-6 Astra better than Claude?
My take, and it is exactly that — my take: for this kind of agent work, yes. Astra feels faster and more direct, it is better at computer use, and it plugs into my Hermes agent on the existing ChatGPT subscription with no separate API key, which Claude cannot do on a subscription. Do I need to know how to code?
No. Plain English in, working build out, with testing and feedback in between. The skill worth practising is describing what you need clearly — that is where builds live or die.
Can Astra work while my laptop is shut?
Yes, two ways: cloud projects keep running after you close the lid, and cloud routines fire on a schedule without the app open at all. The exception is computer-use work, which needs a live browser.
