Setting Up Remotion Inside Google Antigravity

The Remotion Antigravity setup is the cheapest path to AI video creation — install in 15 minutes, build videos for free. By the end of this post, you'll have Google Antigravity installed, the Remotion skill added, and your first video built and rendered.

Prerequisites

Three things to check before you start.

The first is a computer with internet — Mac, Windows, or Linux. Antigravity is cross-platform.

The second is Node.js installed. Remotion needs Node.js. Download from nodejs.org if you don't have it.

The third is about 30 minutes for total setup including your first video.

Step 1 — Download Google Antigravity

Antigravity is a free download from Google. It's Google's IDE with built-in AI agent capability. Install like any IDE.

Step 2 — Open Antigravity

Pick a folder for your video projects, or create a new one.

Step 3 — Open The Chat

Antigravity has a built-in chat panel for the AI agent. This is where you'll prompt for installs and builds.

Step 4 — Install Remotion Skill

In the chat, paste npx skills add dev/skills/skill/remotion. Antigravity's agent runs the install.

Takes 2-5 minutes.

Step 5 — Backup Plan: Use Claude Code Too

Real talk — Antigravity's chat sometimes struggles with installs.

The pro tip from real testing is to open a separate terminal in Antigravity and use Claude Code as backup. If Antigravity fails, Claude Code takes over. This is the safest setup for new users.

Step 6 — Create A Remotion Project

In a terminal, run npx create-video latest. Pick a project name and wait for setup to complete.

Step 7 — Install Project Dependencies

Run npm install. Takes a couple of minutes.

Step 8 — Open The Project In Antigravity

Make sure Antigravity is pointing at your new Remotion project folder. It should now have access to all the project files.

Step 9 — Build Your First Video

In Antigravity's chat, type something like "Create a 30-second video animation showing [your topic]. Use modern colours. Make it engaging."

Antigravity's agent writes the React plus Remotion code. You'll see new files appear in the project.

Step 10 — Preview The Video

Run npx remotion preview. A browser window opens with the video preview, and you can play, scrub, and inspect the result.

Step 11 — Iterate With Chat

Don't like something? In Antigravity's chat, say "Make the title bigger", "Change colour scheme", or "Add a transition".

Antigravity updates the code. Refresh the preview to see changes.

Step 12 — Render The Final Video

When you're happy with the preview, run npx remotion render. Antigravity and Remotion render the final MP4 and save it to your project folder.

Common Setup Issues

Four issues come up regularly during setup.

The first is "skill install failed". Try Claude Code in a separate terminal and re-run the command.

The second is the Antigravity chat being unresponsive. Restart Antigravity or use Claude Code as backup.

The third is the Node.js version being too old. Update to a recent version — Remotion needs Node 16+.

The fourth is render failure. Check disk space and check that the Remotion project structure isn't broken.

Two-Tool Strategy For Reliability

Here's what I do for reliability.

Run both Antigravity (primary) and Claude Code (backup). Both can use the Remotion skill, and if one fails, the other succeeds.

This gives you redundancy. For solo operators, reliability matters more than tool purity.

What To Build As Practice

Three starter videos.

Video 1 — Personal intro card

A 5-second video with your name plus tagline. Easy first build.

Video 2 — 30-second offer explainer

Promote one of your offerings. Useful immediately.

Video 3 — Animation from existing design

Screenshot a webpage and prompt "Create an animation for this page". Get a finished promotional video from a static asset.

Setup Time Reality

Honest numbers on the time investment.

Antigravity install takes 5-10 minutes. Skill install takes 2-5 minutes. Project create takes 2-5 minutes. Dependencies install takes 2-5 minutes. First video takes 10-15 minutes.

Total to a finished first video is 25-45 minutes.

What Setup Doesn't Include

You install the tools, but you don't get pre-built templates (you describe what you want), auto music and audio (add via prompts if needed), or a video editor UI (you use prompts plus preview).

For prompt-driven video, this setup is enough.

Daily Reality After Setup

What it looks like once you're comfortable with the workflow.

Open Antigravity, open the chat panel, type a prompt, see the video build, iterate, and render. The workflow becomes natural after a few videos.

Pairing Antigravity With Other Tools

After setup, combine Antigravity with Claude Code SEO Agent for written content, Hermes Swarm for multi-agent content, and Claude Code Remotion as a comparable approach using Claude Code.

Each fills a different need.
