Setting Up Remotion Inside Google Antigravity

The Remotion Antigravity setup is the cheapest path to AI video creation — install in 15 minutes, build videos for free.

By the end of this post:

Google Antigravity installed.
Remotion skill added.
First video built and rendered.

Prerequisites

Three things first.

1 — Computer with internet

Mac, Windows, or Linux.

Antigravity is cross-platform.

2 — Node.js installed

Remotion needs Node.js.

Download from nodejs.org if you don't have it.

3 — About 30 minutes

Total setup including first video.

Step 1 — Download Google Antigravity

Free download from Google.

Antigravity is Google's IDE with built-in AI agent capability.

Install like any IDE.

Step 2 — Open Antigravity

Pick a folder for your video projects.

Or create a new one.

Step 3 — Open The Chat

Antigravity has a built-in chat panel for the AI agent.

This is where you'll prompt for installs and builds.

Step 4 — Install Remotion Skill

In the chat, paste:

npx skills add dev/skills/skill/remotion

Antigravity's agent runs the install.

Takes 2-5 minutes.

Step 5 — Backup Plan: Use Claude Code Too

Real talk: Antigravity's chat sometimes struggles with installs.

Pro tip from real testing:

Open a separate terminal in Antigravity.

Use Claude Code as backup.

If Antigravity fails, Claude Code takes over.

This is the safest setup.

Step 6 — Create A Remotion Project

In a terminal:

npx create-video latest

Pick a project name.

Wait for setup.

Step 7 — Install Project Dependencies

npm install

Takes a couple of minutes.

Step 8 — Open The Project In Antigravity

Make sure Antigravity is pointing at your new Remotion project folder.

It should now have access to all the project files.

Step 9 — Build Your First Video

In Antigravity's chat:

"Create a 30-second video animation showing [your topic]. Use modern colours. Make it engaging."

Antigravity's agent writes the React + Remotion code.

You'll see new files appear in the project.

Step 10 — Preview The Video

Run:

npx remotion preview

A browser window opens with the video preview.

You can play, scrub, and inspect.

Step 11 — Iterate With Chat

Don't like something?

In Antigravity's chat:

"Make the title bigger."
"Change colour scheme."
"Add a transition."

Antigravity updates the code.

Refresh preview to see changes.

Step 12 — Render The Final Video

When happy:

npx remotion render

Antigravity/Remotion renders the final MP4.

Saves to your project folder.

Common Setup Issues

1. "Skill install failed."

Try Claude Code in separate terminal.

Re-run the command.

2. Antigravity chat unresponsive.

Restart Antigravity.

Or use Claude Code as backup.

3. Node.js version too old.

Update to recent version.

Remotion needs Node 16+.

4. Render fails.

Check disk space.

Check Remotion project structure isn't broken.

Two-Tool Strategy For Reliability

What I do.

Run both:

Antigravity (primary).
Claude Code (backup).

Both can use the Remotion skill.

If one fails, the other succeeds.

This gives you redundancy.

For solo operators, reliability matters.

What Setup Doesn't Include

You install the tools.

You don't:

Get pre-built templates (you describe what you want).
Get auto music/audio (add via prompts if needed).
Get a video editor UI (you use prompts + preview).

For prompt-driven video, this setup is enough.
